Events of all shapes and sizes are witnessing significant growth – locally, regionally, nationally, internationally – shaping our lives, economies, and society-at-large in profound and complex ways.

The Routledge "How Events Transform Society" series encourages authors from both academia and practitioner communities to submit book proposals which showcase the power and potential of events in transforming people and places.

The series aims to attract authors from a variety of disciplines and across geographical borders, from economics, politics, sociology, to anthropology, and covering a range of fields from sports, culture, business, tourism, hospitality, and related leisure fields.

Books in this series are cutting edge and intellectually stimulating, with a balance between theory and application. Titles are accessible and content easily digestible for students, academics, and practitioners. Taking a flip classroom approach, these can easily be integrated as a week of teaching, with interactive activities such as classroom quizzes, debate questions and further reading to situate theory in real life practices.

Each book in the series includes approximately 30 carefully crafted case studies written by leading academics and practitioners globally, that present complex scholarly arguments as concise and accessible chapter-based articles. Each short topical chapter explores a critical issue or debate based on real life events related to the overarching theme, and contextualises this within the key theoretical debates, managerial and policy implications and links to SDG’s.

The role of the Editor would be to flesh out the content for each book and recruit leading global academics and practitioners to write high quality chapters on the overarching topic.

The scope for books in this series is broad ranging and we welcome proposals that cut across one or more of the following:

1. Events analysis from related core disciplines, such as psychology, business, marketing, anthropology.

2. Specific types of events, such as MICE, festivals, business, sports, community events.

3. Impacts of events, such as urban regeneration, sustainability, policy.

4. A specific SDG goal, such as poverty and events.

5. A specific inclusivity and/or rights-based issue, such as gender, diversity, human trafficking, human rights, ethics.

Who can write a book? Though most book proposals will be written by academics, we welcome collaborative submissions from industry experts and academics together.
